Fortunately for me it’s a song I really like as I’ve had to listen to it many times over while sorting the video. Recording the audio was a bit of a problem on the beach, with lots of wind noise and (ah!) children being noisy and has only just passed Sam’s QC this morning.

Anyway, my first music video:

There was a small battle last night in the studio, with the youths playing some tinny noise and us with a little classical music. But the results are some that I’m very happy with!

The main reason for the shoot was a college assignment, but I have started shooting what I want to shoot for the brief rather than what I think they want to see. Personally I’m much happier with the results and the standard of photography – time will tell as to what they think!

I think someone was running some sort of lesson down there as when I strolled over towards the river I could see a flock of tripods and menagerie of photographers. I moved on past them, to what I hoped would be a safe distance so’s to not be associated with them. 30 minutes later I was back in the car and on my way home.

He wasn’t in for long, but was a good laugh – and I like this little comp below!

Question I seem to get asked quite a lot when people first look at some of my shots is if my girlfriend minds what I shoot. She’s totally cool with it, I don’t really shoot any ‘glamour’ and it’s pretty rare for me to do topless or anything (not that I think it would cause a problem if I did).

This week the tone was a bit different as have been shooting mainly guys, so it all evens out in the end! I enjoy shooting blokes to, although it can often be hard to make sure poses and stuff doesn’t look majorly camp.

Luke was first up on Thursday, and this was my first ever shoot involving baby oil.

And then shooting with Sam on the Friday, was a commercial job but we did some portfolio bits to.

Having decided that this was all a bad idea while scraping the ice off the inside of the car windscreen I almost went back to bed – in the end I’m so glad I didn’t. It has been really cold this morning, with ice on the rocks at the beach (something I’ve not seen before, but I’ve not often been at the beach in this weather). Was all wrapped up as I got to Tynemouth and surprised that there were quite a few people down there already walking dogs or jogging (crazy fools).

With so little cloud in the sky it was getting light a good 30 minutes before sunrise, so I decided to have a drive up the coast to see if I could get a good location looking South on St Mary’s Lighthouse. After a little explore, ending up down in Hartley Bay, a stone ledge beach in a small bay, just North of St Mary’s.

This is the main culprit that I’ve been looking at, just sitting there all smug. So out comes the sensor eye glass, rocket blower and ‘Arctic Butterfly’ (but not before another coffee to steady my hand that is).

I’m not scared of cleaning my sensor (in fact I think I’m kind of obsessed by clean sensors), and on looking inside think a rocket blower and the butterfly will make quick work of it.

It always seems to take a wile for my eyes to focus properly when I look through onto the sensor, like there is no simple place to focus on.

Few goes with the rocket blower, and a couple of passes with the butterfly (the static brush in the above image) and the main bit of dust is still there! As this was the body I’ve been using for landscapes I think a combination of being down at the beach and working with longer exposures may have given it some extra grip.

I’ve never yet had to use a wet clean thing on any camera I’ve had – and although I’ve got a pack in the office – I really don’t want to start now. It seems one thing to have OCD on dust when it’s a quick blow and a couple of passes with a brush but I can see me doing a weekly wet clean if I start down that slope. Going to live with it for a week in the hope that the internal system can loosen it a bit. At least I have it’s location burned into memory for a little PS cloning out.
