Sports Portrait

I’m catching up with myself now, as it seems to have been a couple of really busy weeks.

Shot from College brief for a Sports Portrait. This is Jon Caley one of the Newcastle University mountain bike team.

Was a pretty simple set up with a softbox and hair light. Also used a 3 stop ND filter so I could get away with shooting at f2.8 to reduce the depth of field.

The more interesting bit the amount of people that stopped to watch!

Also tried another shot – but unfortunately I couldn’t soften the flash enough for this to look as good as it should have.

Have to say Jon was a really good sport, letting me bolt a camera to his bike – in a place so he couldn’t see where he was going. Then cycle up and down while I’m shouting “a little bit faster” and making a flashgun go off in his face!

Smashing Weekend!

Ah, a play on words, but have been smashing stuff this weekend.

Fair amount of trial (and lots of error) – but these were bought specially to smash so I don’t get lynched by the girlfriend!
I would have carried on, as was getting a little more accurate with each shot – but ran out of glasses as you can only smash them once!

Friday Night Challenge

Been a long week, and not a lot of shooting at all – so set myself a little Friday project after handing in my college module this afternoon.

The challenge – to shoot a lightbulb. Thought this was enough of a inanimate object to show that I don’t only take photos of people!

Anyway, the shot:

Facebook can’t handle it can they!

Facebook is stupid – this is a photo they deleted and blocked me out of the site for a few days over:

Shot a few off for this, but first one processed.

I know, I know….

But I’ve been playing around with some Photoshop actions for Polaroid styles.
Not the most imaginative or original thing, but I do quite like the look for ‘test’ shots and outtakes in the same way that you’d have got them in the days of film.

Anyway, 3 from a shoot last week where the style fits.

First Music Video!

Sam has done me a couple of modeling favours over the last month, so we went down to the beach to record a simple music video for Books & Covers to even things up a bit.

Fortunately for me it’s a song I really like as I’ve had to listen to it many times over while sorting the video. Recording the audio was a bit of a problem on the beach, with lots of wind noise and (ah!) children being noisy and has only just passed Sam’s QC this morning.

Anyway, my first music video:

There should be a few more collaborations over the coming months so why not subscribe to get future blog update notifications direct?

Introducing….. (nsfw)

The delightful, elegant, charismatic and slightly naked Constance Peach!

There was a small battle last night in the studio, with the youths playing some tinny noise and us with a little classical music. But the results are some that I’m very happy with!

The main reason for the shoot was a college assignment, but I have started shooting what I want to shoot for the brief rather than what I think they want to see. Personally I’m much happier with the results and the standard of photography – time will tell as to what they think!
